Handle with care – mobile cranes do some fine manoeuvring

Manitou telehandlers offloading a truck - Liftup teleporterThis job really tested our ability to operate with extremely fine movements.

The client needed us to offload heavy pallets with imported glass sliding doors and carry them to a building site where they were to be installed. Each pallet weighted about a ton, and there was just 2 cm space between the top of the load and the roof of the container – so absolutely no room for error!

We used two mobile crane telehandlers – a Manitou MTL 634 (6 m reach, 3.4 ton lifting capacity) and a Manitou MT 1033 (3.3 ton, 7 m), both fitted with fork attachments. The MTL 634 pulled the pallets out of the container and passed them to the MT 1033. The main photo above shows how this was done.

The MT 1033 then carried the pallets to the building site. The terrain was rough so we had to be very careful – too much bumping and the cargo would have toppled over and smashed!

At the destination we again had an extremely tight fit, with just centimetres to spare. As you can see from the photo below, we had to do some really fine manoeuvring to get the pallets into the building. You simply couldn’t do this with any other kind of crane.

In the end we got the job done perfectly and everybody was very relieved. Thanks go to our trusty Manitous and our expert operators!
