Mobile cranes are highly mobile and able to lift objects using very fine controls. This makes them strong enough to carry heavy sets and scenery while also ensuring that fragile structures are not broken in the process.
Cherrypickers and scissor lifts are also common sights on movie sets, but mobile cranes offer far more lifting power and flexibility. The boom of a mobile crane can extend further than that of a cherrypicker while carrying up to 5 tons. That’s enough to get some of the most challenging sets built and moved into the right positions.
