Where are we going with this big rock?
A building site was being excavated and there were these huge rocks and boulders that had to be carried away. Normally they would have to be loaded into a tip truck and carried to a landfill at considerable expense, but we had a better plan. The owner of the property wanted an outdoor staircase built from stone, so why not use the very same stone that was dug up from the property?
We used our Manitou MT 1033 HTL telehandler to carry the rocks to an empty space a short distance away. Then we got some stonemasons to begin cutting them down into smaller pieces. Here you can see them taming those rocks.

The stonemasons cutting down the boulders to workable size.
We carted all the stone ‘bricks’ back to the site and the masons got to work building the stairs and wall. This was a truly ecological way of working with building materials that resulted in big savings for the owner. Here are the proud masons showing off their work.

The final product – an attractive stone wall.
